Since 2011, Hammerum IF Specialfodbold has been Midtjylland’s football club for children, young people and adults with disabilities and general learning disabities. The team was started by Carsten Sjørvad, whose then 12-year-old brain-damaged son, Andreas, was missing a football team. From the very first day of training, Elsebeth Østergaard, whose son Jens attended the same school as Andreas, has been a co-coach.

Right from the start, our motto has been that lack of money must not prevent anyone from playing football, and therefore both Sommerbold på heden and Julebold på heden are completely free of charge to participate in.

Today, Hammerum IF Specialfodbold has a team for the very youngest school children (6 to 11 years) and a team for young people and adults. The youngest ones train outdoors on Tuesdays from April till mid-October, and indoors on Fridays during the winter. The young and adult players train outdoors on Tuesdays and Thursdays from April till mid-October, and in the winter they train outdoors on Wednesdays and indoors on Fridays. We participate in Parasport Denmark’s nationwide tournament, and a number of other events.

We have boys, girls, men, and women of all ages and with different physical and mental challenges. Most of our players live in Herning Municipality and Ikast-Brande Municipality, but we also have several players who drive up to an hour to train with us.
